The trimester system offers distinct advantages for students because of increased flexibility, the ability to take more elective courses, and the opportunity for students to focus on fewer classes at a time. This has opened the door for many students to enroll in classes they would normally not be able to fit into their schedules.
Such flexibility has contributed to increases in the number of students enrolling in elective courses. With a trimester system, students take 5 classes every 12 weeks with the ability to earn 75 credits each academic year as opposed to 60 in a semester system. Rancho students have academy and general education requirements. The increased number of slots for courses increase the opportunity for students to retake courses in order to maintain their A-G eligibility.
Rancho is equipped with computer labs, a performing arts center, media centers, and project rooms. All students at RCHS are given laptops provided by the district during their freshman year during summer orientation. WiFi access is available throughout the campus. Every course is organized utilizing either Google Classroom or Canvas as the learning management system.
Students interact with these teacher developed sites daily and receive their assignments, participate in interactive learning experiences, and submit finished work for the teacher to evaluate. Technology is used as a tool and resource that accentuates and amplifies the learning experience for Rancho students.
